André Pielage studied at the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (AHK) and graduated in Autonomous Visual Arts at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht.
Hij worked for a year at the CCA Kitakyushu in Japan (2001-2002), was selected for the in 2005 Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunst in Amsterdam (2005-2006), en resided at the Chinese European Art Center in Xiamen, China in 2007.
Pielage investigates the relationship between an image and the way it is experienced by the viewer. Space is the most important aspect of his consistent oeuvre that mainly involves installations. He draws from a wide variety of resources, but tends to limit the number of materials used in a given work or installation. Repetition and delicate handling of the materiaal are characteristic of his works, in which the physical and mental spaces often blend.
