Erik Buijs molds images, human figures and animals in size from about and inch high to humongous. He calls himself  an image-maker rather than an artist. Many of his images were originally molded in clay but  have been cast into a different material. His figures often remind one of primitive effigies or cartoon characters. Often they seem to be aware of the spectator, commenting on their surroundings with irony or humour. Buijs' figures are always, from large to small, compelling and unyieldingly present. Sometimes touching and often self-deprecating they never leave the observer unmoved.
