Esmee Seebregt’s work is an ode to colour. She focuses entirely on the strength of the colour she uses and the sensory perception it induces. A crucial part of her work is the meticulous mixing of her own egg tempera paint and the preparation of the primer. This intensive relationship with materials obviates the need for an idea or representation to shape the work. Her colours radiate enormous intensity; their appearance alone serves her purpose, thanks to the colour intensity of the pigments and the luminosity of the binder.
