For Lotte van Lieshout painting fulfils a deeply personal need: she must express the images that emerge in hermind. Confined in her inner world, without losing contact with the outside world, she interweaves stories from the past and the present to one integrated whole. These stories may be mythical or realistic, and tend to vary in character from violent to serene. In an unreserved manner she seeks new frontiers of form, technique and content. she is not interested in mute, empty, aloof and purely rational forms of realism. It is her aspiration to make work rich in emotion and symbolism, using a recognizable, easily understandable imagery.
Her work has been acquired for important private- and bussiness collections in the Netherlands, Germany and France. She was nominated for the Van Bommel van Dam award in 2007, and for the Royal Awards for Painting in 2009. In 2008 her work was exhibited in the museum De Pont in Tilburg.
