Udo Mathee studied engineering and art at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule in Aachen, Germany. He now works as a freelance sculptor and journalist. His material is wood, metal, glass and text. He often creates metaphors for concepts such as "safety and security" (rough-chopped, coloured, wooden or bronze cottages), and "man and human existence" (torsos as raw, painted wooden jars) Much of his work has a religious or philosophical charge. He often adds text to his works: puns, aphorisms and paradoxes.
Udo Mathee has exhibited in Germany, Belgium, France, Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Russia. He is a member of the Vesti Chen Künstlerbund, Recklinghausen, and Christian artists association "Das Rad".
